Dr Giulia Luciano is fully registered onto the General Medical Council Specialist Register of Cardiothoracic Surgeons .
Before moving to London in 2014 for a Research Fellowship on “Multiple lung cancers” at Royal Brompton Hospital, Dr Luciano had completed a comprehensive training in Thoracic Surgery, including Lung transplant, at the University of Bologna and achieved the title of Specialist Doctor (CCT) in Thoracic Surgery in 2013
She has been a Consultant in Thoracic Surgery at S.Orsola-Malpighi University Hospital in Bologna, Italy, and has been a Senior Clinical fellow in Thoracic Surgery at St Bartholomews Hospital, London, since 2015.
She obtained the European title of PhD in Surgical Sciences in 2017 after publishing numerous papers in international journals cited on PUBMED and a final thesis on “Pulmonary Hypertension and the use of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) to prevent primary graft disfunction”.
As part of her specialist training Dr Luciano has also been consistently performing Minor Surgery procedures, including the removal of lesions of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, with over 1300 operations to date and has perfected the surgical techniques focusing on the importance of minimal scarring along with the patients’ comfort and safety and has developed an interest in the treatment of focal hyperhydrosis with botulinum toxin.
Dr Luciano has been invited yearly as speaker to International Scientific Conferences on Lung Cancer and Cardiothoracic Surgery and is a recognised member of the following international professional bodies :IALSC (Lung Cancer Association);EACTS (European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery);IMSoGB (Italian Medical Society Of Great Britain);ESTS (European Society of Thoracic Surgeons); SPIGC (Società Polispecialistica Italiana dei Giovani Chirurghi);SICT (Società Italiana di Chirurgia Toracica).
